Management of Socionatural Risks

As part of our efforts in this area, we develope studies for the comprehensive characterization of several kind of socio-natural risks, as well as the design and implementation of strategies to strengthen institutional/community capacities to promote prospective and corrective management of different local risk scenarios.

Regarding diagnostics for comprehensive risk characterization, our experience includes the detail exposure analysis of human settlements to various types of natural (seismic, geological mass movements, floods, torrential avalanches, etc.) and anthropogenic hazards (urban fires, explosions, leaks of hazardous materials) and the design and implementation of vulnerability studies related with both “hard” aspects (physical/structural components of buildings and lifelines), and “soft” aspects (related to organizational, politics, socio-cultural, etc, aspects) that usually compromise the eficience/susteinability of disaster risk reduction initiatives particularly in less structured societies.
